Avvikelse – A body-visual ritual solo

Avvikelse explores experiences of body memory in an attempt to decode and deconstruct them. Through the performer's actions, this wordless performance simulates internal emotional experiences as external. In this intimate ritual, no story is told; there is performing, but no acting.

This multisensory contemporary artwork combines body, sound, and video art, playing with the possibilities of embodiment. Reaching toward central themes of being human. Sometimes through breathtaking physicality, sometimes through meditative silence. It centers on change and the human process where time is stored in our bodies. Moment by moment, time changes not only us, but also our experience of ourselves and others.

Drawing from the ancient myth of Theseus’s ship, Avvikelse is part of a multi-year project on identity and body memory. Through this work, the artist has created an independent practice for reprogramming the body and the subconscious. Freely branching out from the methods of modern dance, mime, yoga, and non-human theater, the piece has also drawn inspiration from trauma-sensitive yoga, the TRE method, and epigenetics.

Theseus’s ship leaves the harbor. During the journey, all parts of the ship are replaced one by one with new ones. When the ship returns to the harbor, is it still the same ship?
