HDP is currently offering workshops in dance and household work for dance professionals and amateurs, more info below.
The Household Dance Protocol (HDP) examines our relationship with housework through dance and somatic movement techniques in order to find the origin of dancing desire. What is the difference between dance movements and household movements and why do we rather go to the gym to lift weights than carrying our own grossery up the stairs?
The project was initiated in 2017 and has since then contained activities such as dance-household-workshops, podcast radio programs, installations and live performances in Turku and elsewhere.
HDP is initiated by the choreographer and dance artist Sandrina Lindgren and is carried out together with the composer and Qigong teacher Antti Tolvi. Throughout the years the project has involved several other Turku-based artists in various ways. For more information visit the Household Dance Protocol’s website.
The HDP has since its start been supported by the Swedish Cultural Foundation, Art Promotion Center Finland, Varsinais-Suomen Maakuntarahasto, TOP säätiö and the Regional Dance Center of Western Finland.

The home is full of objects that direct our movements, we move our arm to lift a cup, we lie down in a bed and we pull and push around our vacuum cleaners. One could say that each object has its own choreography, some of these choreographies we probably like more and others we like less. But what does these interactions and the choreographies of every day life do to us? How do they move our minds and how do they influence us as human beings? And how can we use contemporary dance to learn more about this?
The workshops Dish’o Dances and Vacuum cleaner yoga can both be adapted to events and groups of various sizes and backgrounds and aim at both dance-professionals and amateurs.
Vacuum cleaner yoga
Vacuum cleaning might never become our favorite activity but in this workshop we make an attempt to make peace with our noisy dust-suckers. Through playful exercises on the border between dance improvisation, mindfulness and live music (composed and performed on the vacuum cleaners) we explore the potential for movement that hides in vacuum cleaning. Through exploring unwanted work we find out what movements that truly motivates us.
The work supports body positivity and helps us to discover the body as a place of meeting with the surrounding world. A meeting point that is influenced by, for example, the senses, our curiosity and our will to action.
The vacuum cleaner yoga workshop can be given to small or big groups, online workshops are also possible.
Dish’o dances
There are plenty of courses for making tasty food, but this is a workshop that focuses on another side of kitchen work. The Dish’o dance workshop explores the bodys role in kitchen work from a creative, physical perspective inspired by both cooking stress and mindfulness. We work with exercises developed out of dance improvisation, meditation and kitchen tasks while cooking a meal together. In the joint work with the dance in the kitchen, a special form of quality time is created, in which too many cooks always succeeds with the soup.
The work supports body positivity and helps us to discover the body as a place of meeting with the surrounding world. A meeting point that is influenced by, for example, the senses, our curiosity and our will to action.
The workshop can be given for small or big groups, of people in all ages and in all kinds of kitchens.
