Clowne Moderne – an exhibition tour with a contemporary clown
Clowne Moderne is a site-specific exhibition tour where Janna Haavisto’s contemporary clown character Taika Ansa Idé (T.A.Idé) experiences and interprets art. The performance is contemporary theatre where the audience and the clown meet in the midst of modern art. The clown steps down from the stage – and together with the audience – ponders on the artwork in the museum environment. The performance asks how the communication between a contemporary clown and contemporary art can promote the interpretation and experience of the artwork. The contemporary clown represents a spectator who interprets modern art from the baselines of their own. While contemporary art creators and academic intellectuals can understand the contemporary nuances of contemporary art, a naive clown may not necessarily look at it in such a complicated manner. The clown lives for the moment, here and now, and allows the emotional state of itself lead its actions and thoughts. The performance is not based on speech – T.A.Idé may though speak a language of some kind.
